Service is going through major changes under the new owner

Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover is producing some pretty big changes for the social service, and the latest is bad news for Blue subscribers.

Users who are paying $4.99 per month for a Blue subscription will no longer be provided with ad-free articles – this was one of the main perks of the subscription, so it’ll be interesting how this decision will affect the number of paying customers.

The change came into effect on October 31, and in an email sent to publishers, Twitter explained that it just wants to focus on what it describes as “adding additional value for our members.”

The company promises to share more information on this front in the future, but for now, everybody believes the change might be in some way related to the more expensive Twitter Blue that is expected to cost $19.99 per month.

“Starting tomorrow, we will stop displaying the “Twitter Blue Publisher” label on any Tweets containing your articles. We will no longer be sending a Twitter Blue token when people on Twitter access articles from your properties. This will prevent the ad-free experience on your site from loading. There is no change required from your end, but feel free to remove any Twitter Blue code from your site,” Twitter explained in the email sent to publishers.

While officially Twitter has never commented on the reports suggesting a major price hike for Twitter Blue, the company does say in this email that it’s planning some changes for this subscription system as well.

“In the coming weeks, we’ll be launching an update to Twitter Blue,” it says, obviously without disclosing additional details.

On a similar front, Elon Musk said he is currently considering bringing back Vine, though a decision in this regard is yet to be made.
