“More tiles” now available in Windows 10 TH2

The Windows 10 version that debuted in July this year came with a rather awkward limitation that forced you to use only 3 or multiple of 3 live tile columns in the Start menu, so if, for example, you wanted to have 4 tiles on the same row, it wasn't possible.

Microsoft quickly acknowledged that this was a really odd restriction, so Windows 10 Threshold 2 actually comes to fix this behavior.

The option to add a fourth live tile column in the Start menu was implemented in Windows 10 Insider Preview builds, and since no major bugs were found, the company has decided to make it available for everyone in Threshold 2.

How to enable it

Fortunately, it all takes a few clicks to enable this fourth column of Start menu tiles, so go the next path to reach it:

Settings > Personalization > Start > Show more tiles

The new extra column added in your Start menu will be empty, so you'll have to rearrange everything once you enable this option. Obviously, this shouldn't be a problem at all, especially if you're a fan of live tiles.

The Start menu is fully resizable in Windows 10, so you can adjust its dimensions both vertically and horizontally. What's more, users can also choose between the Start menu and the Start screen, so if you're more into the Windows 8 approach, simply look in settings to activate the full-screen mode.

And yet, the Start menu isn't quite perfect. Many users actually want Windows 10 to come with the familiar look of the Windows 7 Start menu, but that's nearly impossible without third-party apps. Fortunately, programs that can bring back the original Start menu are still available, and many of them keep getting improvements to add full support for Windows 10 and Threshold 2.
