The new A16 Bionic could be exclusive to Pro models

Apple’s 2022 iPhone lineup will include, just like before, four different models, though this time, the company is making some changes that could take many by surprise.

The iPhone mini is going away, with Apple to introduce a new standard model that will be called Max. As you could easily anticipate, this model would use a 6.7-inch display, so the smaller iPhones in the upcoming lineups will sport 6.1-inch screens.

Highly reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple will try to make the difference between the standard models and the Pro siblings even bigger, most likely in an attempt not only to make the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max more affordable but also to convince more people to get a Pro.

As a result, the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max won’t be upgraded to a new processor this year. In other words, they’ll stick with the A15 processor that’s currently used on the iPhone 13 generation.

Launch in September

On the other hand, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be fitted with an all-new A16 chip that will most likely offer better performance and improved power efficiency, as well as new capabilities to enhance the camera performance.

Kuo says all iPhone models would be upgraded to 6GB RAM, but the standard models will use LPDDR 4X, whereas the Pro versions will be fitted with LPDDR 5 modules.

With the iPhone mini going away, the only option for those wanting a smaller iPhone is to buy the iPhone SE. The new model has already been announced, and it should start shipping on Friday.

The new-generation iPhone will be unveiled in September, and this time, Apple is believed to be very committed to launching all models at the same time.
