14 DAY TRIAL // SpellForce is one of the few long-running franchises that has been botched by the owners of the IP. The last few SpellForce games retained the successful formula that involves a mix of real-time strategy and RPG elements but refined it to make it stand on its own in modern times.
Today, publisher THQ Nordic announced yet another SpellForce game, but this time one that’s a bit different than what fans of the series have been used to. Also, the game is now developed by a different studio, Owned by Gravity, unlike SpellForce 3, which was created by Grimlore Games.
Dubbed SpellForce: Conquest of Eo, the new game mixes 4X elements and turn-based strategy for a unique blend. The title is developed by PC only, but we don’t rule out a console version coming after the game’s initial launch. It will probably depend on how successful it will be.
In SpellForce: Conquest of Eo, players will command heroes and armies, and send them on endless quests. You step into the shoes of a wizard who is making the journey from the humble beginnings to his old master’s small wizard tower. You’ll be exploring the lands of Eo in your quest for magical power, while constructing new rooms and upgrading your spellbook repertoire.
Developers also revealed that you’ll be able to recruit individual heroes to lead troops, each with their personal quest. Also, you’ll be able to make the living interactive grimoire reveal new secrets and spells to you, as well as craft anything from magical runes and artefacts to undead minions.
Obviously, you’ll be facing off against magical competitors in your hunt for ancient artefacts and hidden secrets, but we’re also curious if there’s any depth to the narrative or it’s just a never-ending sheer of quests.
