Truecaller is an application that often comes in handy when users need to block unwanted calls, and now the company is about to make it even more convenient to get access to such capabilities on an Android device.

This is because Truecaller has joined forces with several Android device makers to offer the app pre-loaded on millions of phones sold in large markets like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Latin America.

While no information has been shared on the brands that will actually offer the Truecaller app pre-loaded, the parent company says nobody would be forced to use the app anyway.

Aimed at less tech-savvy users

Like any other app coming pre-loaded, Truecaller can be disabled, and the company does explain that its app wouldn’t be enabled by default on these Android devices.

“Although these pre-installs do not automatically generate a new active user on Truecaller, it is an important step to allow more consumers to discover and benefit from the features of Truecaller. Today, we have more than 220 million active users in India, a country with more than 450 million smartphone users. This number is expected to grow to over 700 million smartphone users in the coming three years. During the last two years, our market penetration has grown from 35 percent to almost 50 percent and we see a great potential with these kinds of partnerships to scale this even faster,” Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder of Truecaller, said.

Truecaller’s ambitious plan comes down to bringing the app to over 100 million devices over the next two years, as the company wants to offer the app to more than 700 million smartphone users.

Truecaller emphasizes that such a partnership makes it easier for less tech-savvy users to benefit from its technology, especially as they would no longer be forced to download an app from the store.
