Yet another app pulled from Microsoft’s mobile platform

The Windows Phone exodus continues, this time with the company behind Truecaller deciding to wave goodbye to Microsoft’s mobile platform.

Truecaller is a super-popular cross-platform mobile app whose purpose is to provide information on callers in an attempt to block spam and until recently, it was also available on Windows phones.

But given the current state of the platform and that Microsoft isn’t planning any improvements before the end of support is reached next year, Truecaller has been pulled from the Microsoft Store and can no longer be downloaded on Windows phones.

As spotted by WL, Truecaller confirmed in a couple of tweets that it decided to leave Windows phones because of the lack of commitment from Microsoft.

“Due to Microsoft stopping focus on developing Windows 10 Mobile, we have also discontinued support. Sorry about that,” one of the tweets reads. “Unfortunately, we have stopped supporting Windows 10 Mobile. If you want to still lookup numbers, you can go to truecaller.com,” another one adds.

Windows 10 Mobile in maintenance mode

As it’s the case with nearly every app that waves goodbye to Windows phones, users are provided with the web-based workaround, though in some cases, it’s clearly not the most convenient solution.

On the other hand, more developers leaving the platform is no surprise. Microsoft has placed Windows 10 Mobile in maintenance mode, and the company recently confirmed that it’s not planning any new features or devices for this particular operating system, eventually directing users to Android or iOS.

In the meantime, Windows 10 Mobile will continue getting updates until mid-2019 when Microsoft will officially end support for its mobile operating system. This means security patches would still be offered for approximately 12 months, so in the meantime, everyone is recommended to begin the transition to a different platform like iOS and Android.

These two alternatives not only that continue to receive updates from their parent companies, but also benefit from app support from all developers.
