Many gamers have expressed their disapproval when The Creative Assembly has announced that it is only offering four core races for the campaign mode of Total War: Warhammer and the studio is now reacting by announcing that it is also adding Bretonnia as a playable race for the custom and the multiplayer battles on launch day.

The new faction is situated to the West of the Empire on the map of the Old World and was created using elements from classic Arthurian folklore, with the Knights dominating a realm that exists under the influence of a mysterious Lady in the Lake.

The roster of units that Bretonnia can field in Total War: Warhammer focuses on powerful armored units, with knights that launch devastating charges on barded horses and unique special troops that use Pegasi to break enemy lines by attacking from above.

Long-range artillery support is offered via trebuchets, and there are masses of lower level infantry, most recruited from the peasantry, to support the cavalry charges.

The Creative Assembly adds, "While Bretonnian armies might lack the huge monsters that other races can often employ, they can bring to bear powerful magic users in the guise of Enchantresses; capable not only of offensive spells but also powerful buffs to further enhance their knights to superhuman levels."

Total War: Warhammer will get extensive DLC support

Bretonnia will probably become playable in the campaign of the strategy game after launch as The Creative Assembly plans to deliver a range of both free and paid for downloadable content packs.

The plan is to add more Legendary Lords for already existing factions, all of them with attached quest chains, and to introduce more races and units, drawn from the ranks of those that are present on the map but are not playable on launch day.

The new strategy experience will introduce magic use, monsters, and flying units to the franchise for the first time and the developers are saying they want to stay as close to the lore they are exploring while tweaking some of the core mechanics of the series, like province domination and sieges.

Total War: Warhammer will be launched on the PC on May 24, and those who place a pre-order for it will be able to use the Chaos warriors faction on the campaign map.
