The race has access to some powerful artillery

The development team at The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA are continuing their slow reveal of information about Total War: Warhammer with a close look at the impressive firepower that the Dwarves can bring to the battlefield via their tech-driven units.

The coolest of the included units is the Flame Cannon, which is basically a flamethrower that can hold off some enemy units at once and can deal significant damage if placed in a solid position.

Dwarfs can also deploy a Grudgethrower Catapult and a more classic the Organ Gun in order to pepper enemies with fire and limit their efficiency when they reach the actual battle line.

The video uses a mix of concept art, animations and models and, unfortunately, does not show the new units in actual gameplay taken from Total War: Warhammer.

The Creative Assembly adds, "the Dwarfs are gifted engineers exhibiting incredible ingenuity, technical know-how and buckets of design flare. As such, artillery will form the cornerstone of any self-respecting Dwarfen army and its devastating power can more than compensate for any perceived shortcomings of this proud and mighty race."

Total War: Warhammer will bring fantasy to the series for the first time

A lot of fans were surprised when the development team announced that it was working with Games Workshop in order to create a strategy experience based on the classic fantasy setting.

So far The Creative Assembly has offered a close look at the human Empire and the Dwarves, both of which have unique mechanics and heroes leading them.

In the coming months more details will be delivered on the Orcs and the Vampire Counts and fans of the setting are also suggesting that the Skaven will be featured in Total War: Warhammer, although the developers have not offered any confirmation.

The Creative Assembly says that it wants to do justice to the world by creating special mechanics for each of the factions and by making sure that both magic and might are solid choices on the battlefield, depending on conditions and player decisions.

The game engine has been modified to support flying units and to accommodate the size of giants, creating some very interesting and good-looking battles.

Total War: Warhammer is headed to the PC at some point in 2016.
