Gamers also get some hints about useful strategies

Fans of the Total War series have been accustomed to medieval, Japanese or ancient armies that take the field in locations inspired by the continents of the real world. However, The Creative Assembly is now working on a Warhammer-themed video game, and that means that the battle environments are much weirder and have plenty of fantasy elements.

A new video from the studio is set to give gamers a closer look at the Bloodpine Woods location, which features a relatively desolated portion of land that features some Greenskin camps and long-abandoned human settlements.

Plains and forests offer a range of tactical options for those who pick Total War: Warhammer, and The Creative Assembly is also delivering some details about the army rosters that are well adapted to these conditions.

For Bloodpine Woods, the studio recommends the use of solid long range artillery, like the Helstorm Rocket Battery, and of cavalry with the Vanguard trait, like the Pistoliers.

The Creative Assembly adds, "These battlefields are Quest Battles in the game however we are looking at them from a Custom Battle Mode perspective. Recording is done directly in-game, hiding the user interface by pressing the “K” shortcut and using the cinematic mode on units."

Total War: Warhammer focuses on authenticity

Players will be able to choose from the Empire, the Dwarves, the Greenskins and the Vampire Counts as they seek to save the Old World from the assault of the Chaos Gods who want to destroy it.

The Creative Assembly has said that each race will have a range of unique options on the campaign map and that, in combat, they are adding the ability to use magic to control areas of the battlefield and to use flying units to disrupt enemies lines.

Total War: Warhammer will be launched on the PC on May 24, and the Chaos warriors faction pack will be offered to all those who are ready to place a pre-order for the title.

The plan is to deliver a range of both free and paid downloadable content once the strategy game is out, introducing more units, access to factions and powerful new Legendary Lords to choose from, although the exact number of content drops has not been mentioned.

The Creative Assembly and SEGA are saying they plan a trilogy of Warhammer-themed video games and that a separate team is also working on another historical title that will not be officially announced anytime soon.
