Video game developer The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA are finally ready to give gamers a more extended look at the new Total War: Warhammer, and they are starting by showing off one of the most fantasy-driven units of the new strategy title, the Demigryphs that the Empire uses.

The official description states, "Part lion and part eagle, these noble monstrous cavalry are ridden by only the most renowned knights of the Empire. Clad in ornate plate armour, their densely muscled frames enable them to thunder into combat, tearing their foes limb from limb and spreading fear among the enemy ranks."

The creatures cannot actually fly, which makes them some of the most powerful units that the Empire can employ to break the enemy line in Total War: Warhammer.

The game looks pretty good at the moment, and the studio seems determined to include even the most outlandish elements of the fantasy universe created by Games Workshop.

The Creative Assembly is saying that it plans to deliver an in-engine look at the gameplay of the strategy title on Friday, July 17, although no hour has been mentioned.

Total War: Warhammer is an important step forward for the series

The Creative Assembly has said that it wants the new game to be appealing both to fans of the fantasy universe and to those who have stuck with the strategy franchise since Shogun was introduced.

The studio will allow gamers to take control of the Empire, the Orks, the Chaos forces, and the Vampire counts as they seek to control the world.

Each faction will have a custom set of mechanics, and their units will be very asymmetric, with giants able to encounter pikemen in combat and wizards able to control section of the battlefield if the conditions are right.

The Creative Assembly has also said that it will deliver an upgrade when it comes to the graphics engine and the way the core features are presented.

Total War: Warhammer will be offered on the PC and does not yet have a clear launch window.

The developers at The Creative Assembly are currently continuing to work on updates and on new content for both the older Rome II and for Attila.
