The latest installment in the Total War series, Three Kingdoms is getting another DLC – Mandate of Heaven, the largest and most detailed expansion to date. In fact, SEGA calls it a “colossal Chapter Pack,” which is different than the usual DLC because it adds new start positions and stories that cover periods linked to the main narrative of the Three Kingdoms.

Mandate of Heaven is a prequel to Total War: Three Kingdoms and depicts the events of the Yellow Turban Rebellion and Qiang uprising, both of which ultimately led to the iconic Three Kingdoms conflict.

As far as the new content introduced, SEGA revealed that Mandate of Heaven adds a host of new characters, 40 new battle units, a major rebalance of existing units roster to encourage more diverse army builds, and unique faction mechanics for both new and existing playable Warlords, which should create different playstyles and campaign experiences.

Along with the new Chapter Pack DLC, SEGA announced that a major game update will be available for download, which adds many tweaks, balance changes, bug fixes, and improvements.

With Mandate of Heaven, players will have the option to start a new campaign in 182 CE just before the Yellow Turban rebellion, then play through the conflict and deep into the Three Kingdoms period.

The Chapter Pack DLC introduces new characters and six new playable warlords including the Zhang brothers and Emperor Liu Hong. Also, you'll be able to play the origin stories of iconic characters such as Cao Cao and Liu Bei.

Last but not least, Mandate of Heaven brings 6 new playable factions, including the Han Empire, as well as 5 existing factions with origin stories and new starting positions. The new Chapter Pack DLC is now available on Steam for just $9 / €9, reduced from $10 / €10.
