Video game developer The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA are announcing that the next downloadable content pack for Total War: Attila is called Empires of Sand and will introduce three new factions that gamers can lead to victory as the world crumbles around them.

Launch date is at the moment set for September 15, and gamers will be able to control the Aksum, Himyar and Tanukhids, each of them coming with both new mechanics and unique units.

The Desert Kingdoms culture will give gamers better sanitation, improved melee attack during battles that take place on home ground, and immunity to attrition in desert terrain.

Eastern Christianity, Judaism and Semitic Paganism are also introduced in the Empires of Sand DLC for Total War: Attila, with each of the new faction able to choose from them.

The decision will affect buildings chains for the factions, and a special barrack is being offered to both Aksum and Himyar based on the faith that dominates in their territory.

Religion will also play a bigger role in diplomacy, and a new set of buildings also allow gamers to choose to get more money at the expense of faith presence.

For each of the new factions, gamers will get a slightly different unit lineup, with some special powerful warrior for each.

Total War: Attila is also getting free faction in coming update

The Tanukhid faction is the horde option for those who get the Empire of Sands DLC, designed to allow gamers to play very aggressively, with each victory giving them more soldiers and food that's obtained from settlement battles.

The Creative Assembly says that it is also planning to launch a major update for Total War: Attila on September 15.

At the moment, the studio is not willing to offer a full look at the changes that will be made but it does mention that it will include a free faction, which has not yet been named.

The Creative Assembly is at the moment also working on the Arena free-to-play experience linked to the series, which has recently received patch 11.

From now on, the studio no longer plans to reset accounts as it considers the core mechanics and infrastructure solid enough to allow long-term player progress.
