The development team at The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA have already announced that next week they are planning to introduce three new factions to Total War: Attila via a downloadable content pack called Empires of Sand.

Now the two companies are ready to reveal that the free faction that is being introduced for all gamers on September 15, alongside an official update, are the Lakhmids.

They represent a proudly Arab group that starts life as a vassal of the Sassanid Persians, distanced from rivals to the south and able to choose when they want to try and break free and to carve their powerful empire in the region.

A new edition of the Warcast allows gamers to get more information about the Lakhmids and the unique mechanics that gamers will experience if they choose to control them.

The Creative Assembly says, "the Lakhmids have managed to retain some autonomy and are growing once more, yet are nevertheless expected to provide military support to their Persian overlords when required. However, the self-styled 'Sons of the Water of Heave' do not intend their ways to crumble, or to bend the knee to anyone!"

Total War: Attila continues to evolve

The studio has not said exactly what changes they are planning to make in the coming update for the strategy title, and patch notes will probably be only offered on September 15 when deployment takes place.

The Empires of Sand DLC will introduce the Aksum, Himyar and Tanukhids, each of them with unique units and differences when it comes to initial positions and goals.

Gamers will also get access to an improved religious system, with two of the factions able to choose which faith dominates their lands in order to get different bonuses from buildings and varied diplomatic interactions.

Total War: Attila is focused on the decline of the Roman Empire and the way nomadic tribes have carved out pieces of it, but the action in the East is dominated by more settled empires.

Many fans of the game are waiting for The Creative Assembly to offer a more extensive set of updates for the core mechanics, for both the strategic and tactical layers.
