Russian developer perelesoq is working on an interesting project that involves sensible topics like World War II. The name of their upcoming game, Torn Away promises to treat such topics in a new, non-violent way.

Torn Away is the story of Asya, an ordinary 10-year-old who's been torn away from her home. She eventually becomes a so-called Ostarbeiter, a common worker in a forced labor camp, just like millions of others did during the Nazi occupation.

We’re proud to show Torn Away to the world since we believe that in these difficult times, our dignity, humanity, and family are the only real things we need to hold on to. Our everyday struggles differ very much from what Asya experiences, but her journey should help us understand what matters most in our lives. And we all know that even today, children are torn from their parents, even though they’re only looking for a better place to live. We can only hope that the game will help our viewers reconsider their views on the justification of war, the problems of emigration, or the isolation of children,” said Artūras Surgutanovas, Nordcurrent Head of Marketing.

Asya manages to escape the forced labor camp and flees eastward across Germany and Poland trying to reach home. What makes Torn Away stand out from other games that approach similar topics is that Asya can't use violence in order to survive.

Obviously, the next best thing that Asya can take advantage of to escape her pursuers is stealth. Torn Away becomes a dance between hiding and evading enemy soldiers, trying to overcome the harsh elements of nature while seeking shelter and food.

Torn Away mixes art and history elements, and promises an impactful story, based on children's war diaries, which presents the war from a different perspective: through the eyes of a child. As shown in the trailer, the game features a unique art style and an emotional soundtrack created by Vasily Kashnikov (Pathologic 2).

Torn Away doesn't have an exact release date yet, but developers announced their game will be launched in later 2021 on PC (via Steam and GOG). Those who wish to support the game can wishlist Torn Away on Steam right now.
