The third installment in the Torchlight series got a lukewarm reception from critics and players alike, but that didn't prevent developer Echtra Games from delivering a few major updates that added a lot of content.

The most recent Torchlight III update brings a brand-new class, the Cursed Captain, as well as new pets and new variants of familiar friends. Also, new wardrobes and fort props have been added too, along with new legendary armor and weapons.

Torchlight III players will be happy to know that the latest update brings a new inventory sorting feature that will allow them to sort their inventories with filters. More importantly, players can now reset their accounts by mode: single-player, multiplayer, and Arc (multiplayer with Arc Account Link).

One other important addition to the game is the increase of the max character slots to 25 (online) and 40 (offline). Naturally, the update includes a bucketload of improvements and bug fixes for each class, so make sure to read the full changelog to learn more.

Along with the announcement of the new update, developer Echtra Games confirmed that this would be its last update for Torchlight III. The studio has been acquired by Zynga back in March, so it makes sense for the new owner to want to put its new acquisition to work on its own projects.

The Torchlight franchise belongs to Perfect World Entertainment, so the next updates will be developed by one of its studios.

"As you may have heard in the news, we were acquired by Zynga back on March 2nd. As a result of this transition, we are moving on to new (and exciting) things, and we will be passing the baton back to our partners at Perfect World. We absolutely enjoyed our time with Torchlight III, and only hope for the best for the future of the franchise. We are grateful for the opportunity to have worked on it."

That being said, we can't wait to see what the future holds for Echtra Games, and how the Torchlight franchise will evolve going forward.
