Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine in Fox’s X-Men universe for so many years that, to loyal fans, it must be downright impossible to imagine anyone else in that role. In the end, they will have to accept the harsh reality that, come 2017, Jackman will be making his final outing as the beloved Mutant.

That’s the year when the still-untitled “The Wolverine” sequel comes out.

Jackman has made no secret about why he will no longer play the part: he’s not getting any younger and the training for each film is starting to take a toll on his body. At the same time, he has expressed regret at parting ways with a character that meant so much for him, both personally and career-wise.

In a recent interview with MTV (see the video below), he says he doesn’t want to make it easier on Fox when it comes to replacing him, by offering them options for younger actors, but if he were to pick, he’d probably go for British actor Tom Hardy.

Hardy is younger, but that’s not what would make him a perfect Wolverine. That would be his already tested and proven ability to transform himself physically for a role to such an extent that he becomes lost in it.

Hardy’s only brush with the comic book genre so far has been for Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” where he played villain Bane. He was also signed for Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Suicide Squad,” but he had to drop out because of scheduling issues.

Assuming Fox acts quick and books him in time (because he’s very much in demand these days), Tom Hardy as Wolverine could totally happen. Would you be game for it if it did?
