As per his own admission, Tom Hardy was very upset when he had to drop out of Warner Bros.’ upcoming comic book-inspired movie “Suicide Squad,” because of his commitment to Alejandro G. Innaritu’s “The Revenant,” whose shooting extended well beyond the initial schedule.

However, he’s not done with the comic book genre yet. The Hollywood Reporter says that his next project will be the big screen adaptation of the very popular comic series 100 Bullets, by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso.

Hardy will produce through his production company, but he’s also looking to star as the lead.

100 Bullets is about a mystery man named Agent Graves, who tracks down men who have suffered all kinds of injustice, presenting them with the details they need to track down and murder the persons responsible. He also hands them 100 bullets that are untraceable, which should be enough for them to carry out the job.

There are no details on the plot of “100 Bullets,” but THR cites inside sources as saying that the intention is to stay true to the comics, which ran from 1999 to 2009. A first version of the script already exists, thanks to Chris Borrelli.

Hardy isn’t exactly a stranger to the comic book genre, even if he did have to drop out of “Suicide Squad,” which puts together some of the most dangerous villains from the DC Comics universe.

He starred as Bane in the final Batman film from director Christopher Nolan, “The Dark Knight Rises,” and has taken over as Max from Mel Gibson in George Miller’s rebooted franchise, with this year’s critical hit “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
