14 DAY TRIAL // Tom Cruise is getting ready to walk down the aisle for the fourth time: he and Emily Thomas, a set assistant whom he started dating at the end of last year, are engaged and preparing for a December wedding. It will supposedly take place in London.
If you’re thinking this feels a bit rushed, don’t: apparently, Tom and Emily have been inseparable since they met, and insiders vouch that they’re absolutely “smitten.” Tom popped the question on a recent trip to Morocco, the Daily Mail writes, citing a report in the print issue of Star Magazine.
Tom is ready for marriage again, will keep Emily close
Emily Thomas is 22 and she hails from the UK. She and Tom met when she was assigned as his on-set assistant on the latest “Mission: Impossible” movie, and he took a liking to her immediately.
In November 2014, the first reports of a possible romantic relationship had started making the rounds online, but insiders claimed that Tom, though infatuated with her, was holding back from asking her on a date until they could wrap up the production, because he didn’t want to complicate things unnecessarily.
Still, it was clear that he liked her a lot, spies told the tabs at the time: he was always by her side when not shooting and constantly trying to spend time with her when not on the set.
“Tom was so impressed with her, he made it clear he wanted her to work with him on all his upcoming projects,” an insider says.
They started dating and, true to his word, he took her with him to Morocco, where he was scouting locations for the next “M:I” movie (i.e., the one that hasn’t even been greenlit yet, but that’s Cruise for you, always planning ahead).
He proposed while there and she said yes, and they’re thinking of tying the knot at the end of the year, in the UK.
Is Emily Scientology-approved?
That’s the first question that comes to mind whenever reports about Tom’s love life emerge in the press. Cruise may not be the number 1 action star in Hollywood these days (that honor has long gone to The Rock), but he’s still the biggest celebrity spokesperson for the Church of Scientology.
He’s good friends with leader David Miscavige and often uses his star power to get more influential / rich people into the cult.
Rumor has it that both his marriage to Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes ended because of Scientology and that the only reason they don’t talk about it is because children stand to suffer from it: Isabella and Connor in Nicole’s case, and Suri in Katie’s.
Every woman Tom ever dated had to be screened and approved by the Church, so if it’s true that he and Emily are now engaged, it stands to reason that she got Miscavige’s blessing. She might already be a Scientologist, for all we know.
