Mobvoi is one of the companies betting big on Wear OS for smartwatches, and this week, the company has announced a new model that brings a series of welcome upgrades to the original TicWatch Pro.

Simply called TicWatch Pro S, the new device includes 8GB of storage, up from 4GB on the previous model, thus offering more space for apps and music.

The device also features an IP68 rating, so it’s ready for swimming and other similar activities, while also powering a bunch of software updates for improved fitness, sleep, and health tracking.

Welcome software updates, old-generation processor

For example, TicWatch Pro S ships with TicExercise 3.0, a new version of Mobvoi app that includes a running lap counter, an upgraded heart rate indicator, and Vo2 Max readings during outdoor runs.

“TicExercise offers 13 workout modes, GPS tracking, heart-rate monitoring, and more. TicExercise 3.0 introduces a running lap counter, an upgraded heart rate range indicator, an updated UI, and Vo2 Max (maximal oxygen consumption) tracking during outdoor runs. Vo2 Max measures the maximum amount of oxygen you can use during intense exercises to assess your aerobic endurance and is used in cardiovascular fitness and performance tests,” the parent company explains.

TicSleep 2.0 is also included, and it comes with sleep recommendations and weekly sleep reports.

TicWatch Pro S is still offered with 1GB of RAM, while the chipset responsible for everything is the Snapdragon Wear 2100. While this is quite an old chip, it should serve its purpose just right, especially if what you’re looking for is a well-balanced mix of fitness tracking capabilities and smartwatch features.

The new TicWatch Pro S is already available for purchase in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, with a price of $259.99 / £222.99 / €259.99.
