Windows Phone concept imagines 2020 makeover

Windows Phone is no longer a thing, as Microsoft has officially abandoned its mobile operating system, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone who was forced to make the switch to Android or iOS is pleased with the whole thing.

And because so many people are still dreaming about a modern version of Windows Phone, someone has come up with a concept that imagines a 2020 iteration of the OS.

This modern version envision so many cool updates, including a so-called touchscreen navigation bar.

“Who needs gestures when you have a convenient navigation bar? The redesigned navigation bar now has a modern frosted glass background, meaning it subtly and inconspicuously complements whatever is on screen and is no longer obtrusive,” the concept reads.

There’s also a transparent status bar, as well as a redesigned Start screen, with both new features and cosmetic improvements part of the concept.

“Stock tiles now have a frosted glass aesthetic and downloaded apps now have an opaque white background, making colorful icons stand out,” it explains.

There are new smart live tiles, something that users have been asking for back in the days when Windows Phone was still alive. Improved smart tiles would have allowed better integration with apps without having to launch them, and this concept includes a Peek effect that allows the user to press and hold to get more information.

This is something like the original 3D Touch feature on the iPhone, and which has recently been replaced with a software-based alternative on the new-generation Apple smartphones.

All in all, this concept looks good, as it envisions what Windows Phone could have been with a little bit more long-term commitment. For the time being, however, everyone’s option is to just choose between Android or iOS for a smartphone.
