Concept imagines a modern version of the Task Manager

Microsoft has further refined the Windows 10 Task Manager in the most recent feature updates, but in terms of UI, very little has changed, despite the OS itself slowly moving to a modern approach.

And while Task Manager is yet to get this visual treatment, the designers out there in the Windows community already know how the app can be improved to align with the new direction that Windows 10 also embraced.

The concept that you see here envisions a Task Manager version that uses Fluent Design and a couple of new features, including a search box that allows users to search for running processes.

The search box is without a doubt one of the features that should have been there from the very beginning, and Microsoft must undoubtedly add it in a future update for the operating system.

Not responding Photos app

Additionally, this Task Manager concept also proposes a clear indicator of the desktop where each app runs – if you use multiple desktops, each process comes with details in this regard, as Task Manager displays global information for the active Windows instance.

The funny thing about this concept is that the Photos app is displayed as Not responding, something that many Windows 10 adopters already got used to given the high CPU usage of this application. Photos is the default image viewer in Windows 10, and it comes with a rich feature lineup that includes photo and video editing capabilities. The app, however, is often one of the top resource hogs on Windows.

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind this is just a concept and there’s no guarantee Microsoft would make it happen. But things like the search box in Task Manager is without a doubt something that Windows 10 really needs.
