14 DAY TRIAL // Mini PCs have been around for a while and most companies are trying to put in hardware that’s as powerful as possible, while also offering a very compelling price and extreme portability.
This is what a company called Ockel is trying to achieve with the Sirius A mini PC, a new device that’s the size of an iPhone 7 Plus and runs the full version of Windows 10.
Although it’s currently on IndieGogo, the Ockel Sirius A computer has already been fully-funded, as it received $100,000 in donations in just a couple of days after going public. Right now, the crowdfunding campaign has reached $250,000 with 23 more days to go.
Technical specifications
First and foremost, the Ockel Sirius A comes with a 6-inch full HD display, with 4K and UHD support, but the display has a double role. First of all, it’s a regular screen that lets you play music or browse photos, but at the same time, it also converts to an input method when connected to an external screen, such as a monitor. This behavior is similar to Continuum for Windows 10 Mobile devices.
The PC is powered by an Intel Atom x7-8750 quad-core processor clocked at 1.66 GHz and going all the way up to 2.56 GHz in turbo mode, and features 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. microSD card support is also offered, and so are USB 3.0, USB Type-C, HDMI, headphone jack, DisplayPort, and Ethernet connectors.
Furthermore, the device features a 3,000 mAh battery, as well as several sensors, including an accelerometer and a gyroscope for additional features. You also get a front-facing camera, speakers, and microphone.
There are no coolers available on this mini PC, and it uses heat sinks to cool down when running at full power, so it won’t make any noise on your desk.
“The Ockel Sirius A however doesn’t compromise on the architecture used to make your software run and it doesn’t sacrifice connectivity. It's equipped with a full Windows 10 Home version (64-bit) and gives you the real desktop experience with the benefits of a mobile device,” the parent company says.
Fortunately, the project has already received the necessary funding, so it shouldn’t take too long before we actually get our hands on it to see what it’s up to.
