The free upgrade offer ends in just 18 hours

You've probably heard this over and over again, but seriously, this is absolutely your last chance to upgrade to Windows 10 without paying a single cent.

The free upgrade offer that Microsoft launched when it debuted the new Windows 10 operating system on PCs will come to an end in 18 hours, so you’re clearly running out of time to perform the switch.

Only Windows 7 and 8.1 users can perform the switch without paying for the upgrade, but in case they don’t complete the process sometime in the next hours, they’ll have to pay the full price of a license, which, in the case of Windows 10, is $119.99 in the United States for the Home version (Windows 10 has the same price as Windows 8.1 in all markets, so whatever you spent on the previous OS version, you need to invest in buying Windows 10 too unless you complete the switch today).

You don’t have to use it full time

The best thing about this is that you don’t even need to continue using Windows 10 if you don’t like it, but you just have to perform the upgrade and activate the operating system before the countdown ends.

Thanks to Microsoft’s new activation system, the product key is tied to your hardware and the Microsoft account, so if you decide to upgrade to Windows 10 at a later time, even after July 29, the operating system will be completely free of charge. Activation will be completed automatically, without you having to input any product key.

And what’s more, if you decide to take advantage of this trick, you can also downgrade to your existing OS automatically, as Windows 10 comes with a dedicated option in this regard that takes care of everything for you.

In the end, this is one of the best offers that Microsoft has announced in the last decade, and Windows 10 is pretty much the first completely new OS that’s offered free of charge. So it’s a shame not to give it a try because, who knows, maybe in a few months, you might actually reconsider your options.
