Concept envisions Project NEON covering the Task Manager

Microsoft’s Project NEON is believed to be one of the most substantial UI makeovers in Windows 10, and according to people close to the matter, the upcoming Redstone 3 OS release is projected to be the first version betting big on this visual overhaul.

But with Microsoft not talking too much about how it plans to improve the look of Windows 10, it’s up to concept designers across the world to imagine how everything could look in the operating system once Project NEON gets the go-ahead.

And this is exactly what lukeled from DeviantArt tried to do with a concept envisioning the new Task Manager with Project NEON design cues.

Familiar Windows 10 look

As you can see, the Task Manager UI adopts a look that aligns it with other applications available on Windows 10, though the spacing between processes might need to be reduced for greater usability especially on devices with small screens.

All tabs are displayed at the top of the screen in a Windows 10-like layout, with quick access to processes, performance, app history, startup, users, details, and services, but also with a settings shortcut that makes it possible to quickly launch the Settings app and change the OS configuration.

The blur and transparency effects that are said to define Project NEON are missing from this concept, though we’re not entirely sure how everything would look here since it’s all a list of processes with essential information such as CPU, RAM and disk usage. The existing design makes all this info pretty easy to read, so transparency should only be added as an optional feature.

In the end, it’s nice to see such concepts imagining how Windows 10 could be overhauled in the coming updates, but in the end, it’s entirely up to Microsoft to decide whether it’s worth introducing such a substantial makeover of the desktop or not.
