Apple says this is the most durable glass ever

The iPhone X has started not only to reach its first customers across the world, but to also break into pieces, as some unlucky folks who already received the device accidentally attempted to test its durability.

After the video that we posted yesterday and which presented an iPhone X that was allegedly dropped to the ground, here’s a photo showing what Apple’s anniversary iPhone looks like after experiencing another strong hit.

@EnglishRussia1 says the photo comes from “a guy who bought the iPhone X and already dropped it,” with no other specifics provided.

At first glance, the device looks more like it was hit with a hammer than dropped to the ground judging from the damage in the center of the rear glass, so take this photo with somewhat skepticism.

The glass body makes the iPhone X prone to cracks

But despite not being entirely clear how this iPhone X was shattered, it’s important to know that the device is indeed prone to physical damage due to its glass body.

Apple replaced aluminum, that was previously used on the iPhone 7, with glass for both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X, and while the switch comes with a series of advantages, it also creates drawbacks like bigger risk of damage. In turn, the glass body allows for wireless charging and a more exquisite look.

Cupertino says it has spent particular focus on the glass body, making it the most durable glass on a smartphone right now, though it’s pretty clear that this does not mean the device is crack-proof. In most of the cases, buying a case is the right way to go to protect the device, but this means you’re going to lose that exquisite look we were talking about.

In the meantime, expect more such unfortunate accidents to surface in the coming weeks and months, as dropping smartphones to the ground is something that does happen no matter how hard we try to avoid it.
