The device mixes Tizen and Wear OS for a unique approach

We’re only a few days away from the moment Samsung is scheduled to take the wraps off the new Galaxy Watch4, and just as expected, more information is making its way to the web through unofficial channels.

This time, the folks over at 91mobiles have posted photos of what appear to be two versions of the new Samsung smartwatch in black and silver.

While little can be said in terms of software from these images, the Galaxy Watch4 will represent a major turning point for Samsung’s wearable strategy, as the device would give up on Tizen and embrace Google’s very own Wear OS.

Needless to say, this is a historical collaboration which at the end of the day could be bad news for Apple. Samsung and Google working together on building a wearable platform could finally provide the world with a worthy alternative to the Apple Watch, especially because until now, the adoption of Wear OS has been scarce, to say the least.

One UI on top of Wear OS

Judging from these photos, Samsung will stick with a watch approach that the company is already familiar with.

The circular design allows the new smartwatch to look like a classic watch, though there’s no doubt it’ll be packed with smart capabilities. Most likely, Samsung will be putting a lot of effort into the health tracking features of the new device, clearly positioning it as a direct competitor to the Apple Watch.

The mix of Tizen and Wear OS, however, is likely to happen without giving up on the familiar UI that Samsung users have ended up loving. A OneUI skin would be dropped onto Wear OS, and there’s no doubt a closer look at everything would be offered in the coming days, as other leaks showing the user interface are expected to make their way online.
