14 DAY TRIAL // Rebel Cops is a nice little game set in the This Is The Police universe. If you liked the previous two games created by Weappy Studio, you'll probably love the spin-off as well, which, by the way, is developed by the same studio.
Unlike the other two This Is The Police games, Rebel Cops focuses more on combat rather than story, although that doesn't mean that it's been devoid by the narrative. It's just that Rebel Cops is first and foremost a turn-based tactics stealth game, where players control a squad of ex-police officers united by a desire to take down their town’s new criminal overlord.
It's a pretty generic plot, which seems to be supported by solid turn-based stealth gameplay, with unforgiving combat and vast levels to explore. Most of your time in Rebel Cops, you'll be performing tactical turn-based missions to undermine the bad guy's allies.
Of course, your first thought is this is a low-budget XCOM, but you'll be surprised to learn that Rebel Cops' combat system is quite different. There are no hitpoints, which means that if you're hit, you're probably dead. So, you'll have to rely on stealth tactics and cover to approach the enemy quietly and take them down before they can raise any alarms.
Even though there are no hit points in the game, you can save officers who have been hit if you act fast enough. Rebel Cops features a decent amount of scenarios, from compact operations to big, open-ended locations to explore. Also, there will be lots of side-quests too, which will allow you to help out local folks and get rewarded.
Also, in Rebel Cops, your reputation will affect your team’s morale and even the merchants’ prices, so you'll have to make some tough decisions. One thing is sure, the price for getting into Rebel Cops is quite low, so we see no reason not to try this one out.
Rebel Cops is now available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch for just £7.99 / €9.99 / $9.99, an amazing price for a game that promises to offer around 15 hours of challenging gameplay.
