Microsoft planning new Share UI for Windows 10 users

As we told you not too long ago, Microsoft is working on a new Share UI for Windows 10 Creators Update, and it is expected to be released to Windows insiders sometime in the next few days.

Now it turns out that an early version of this new sharing feature is already implemented in the existing builds of Windows 10 and you can give it a try right away.

As you can see in the screenshot attached to the article, this new sharing UI gives up on the sidebar and instead uses a popup that includes all sharing options, such as the apps that you can use to send the content you want to share.

For the moment, this is just an early implementation, and it doesn’t work correctly, but it’s still good enough to provide us with a glimpse into how Microsoft sees the future of sharing in Windows 10.

How to enable the new sharing UI

Trying out the new sharing feature comes down to just a few registry settings which, according to ghacks, can be applied without a system reboot.

All you have to do is launch the Registry Editor (click the Start menu and type “regedit.exe”) and then navigate to the following location:

code
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Look for a key called “SharePlatform” (without the quotes), and if it does not exist, create it by right-clicking the Microsoft folder and hitting New > Key. Once this new key is there, look for or create a Dword (32-bit) value called “EnableNewShareFlow” (again without the quotes) and input value 1.

Once you’re done, simply close the registry editor and open any Windows 10 application that supports sharing and click the share button to see the new UI in action. Microsoft Edge is one of the supported apps.

This feature should be released to insiders sometime very soon, so you could very well wait a bit longer to get it officially (when everything should work correctly anyway).
