Samsung’s new Apple Watch rival leaks ahead of launch

Samsung plans to take the wraps off the new Galaxy Watch 3 on August 5, but a video that reached the web today provides us with a pretty close look at what the device is projected to bring new to the table.

The Galaxy Watch 3, which will be Samsung’s new rival to the Apple Watch, will be offered in two sizes, according to TechTalkTV, who posted this hands-on video on YouTube.

The version that you see in the clip is actually the 41mm model, which comes with a 1.2-inch round display. There are two buttons on the side, and it’s believed that pressing both will allow users to take a screenshot of the screen.

Worth emphasizing is that the Galaxy Watch 3 will sport a rotating bezel, previously a signature feature of Samsung’s flagship wearable.

The bigger version will be equipped with a 45mm 1.4-inch display, according to the same source.

ECG, fall detection, new gestures

The rest of the specs will include 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage, and just as expected, the device will support an ECG feature just like the Apple Watch. Samsung announced ECG support earlier this year, promising that it would be available on its new watches.

The watch will come with an IP68 rating, which means you should be able to take it for a swim just fine. Most likely, Samsung will also offer swim tracking, so you’ll be able to count laps, measure burned calories, and possibly to monitor your heart tracking even under water – this is something that wearable manufacturers have struggled to make more accurate, and Apple itself admits that HR during swimming might not necessarily be correct.

The new Samsung smartwatch will come with built-in GPS and feature Gorilla Glass DX on the screen for extra protection. The debut will happen on August 5, with sales to begin later the same month.
