Microsoft has finally launched the Surface Laptop 5 as part of its October event, and once again, the device focuses mostly on upgrades under the hood.

The laptop looks mostly similar to its predecessor, so the big star of the show is the addition of the Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake U series chip. Worth knowing, however, is an AMD version of the Surface Laptop is no longer being offered this year.

The new model, therefore, comes in two sizes, namely 13.5-inch and 15-inch, with up to 32GB of RAM. When it comes to storage, the device features at least 256GB of storage, while the top-of-the-range configuration is 1TB.

Otherwise, the Surface Laptop is the same device that so many people love, and unlike the Surface Pro 9, it still offers a headphone jack. It also comes with one USB-C connector and the signature Surface Connect port.

“Surface Laptop 5 is sleek and elegant, providing all-day battery life4 as our customers have come to appreciate and expect. It now offers the latest 12th Gen Intel Core processor, Thunderbolt 4 and is co-engineered and verified as an Intel Evo device for the first time, making the Surface Laptop 5 over 50% more powerful than its predecessor,” Microsoft says, therefore praising the hardware upgrades on the new model.

“Surface Laptop 5’s signature 3:2 PixelSense display comes in 13.5-inch or 15-inch options, each with Dolby Vision IQ, giving you the best possible picture, with vivid colors and sharp contrast in any lighting conditions. The speakers are perfectly tuned and offer Dolby Atmos 3D spatial processing6 to fully immerse you in your content. The front-facing HD camera and Studio Microphones capture you in true-to-life fashion, even adjusting camera exposure in any lighting environment.”

The new Surface Laptop 5 will start shipping on October 25, and the cheapest model costs $999, with the price to obviously go up as more hardware upgrades are added.
