And protect your shiny new dual-screen smartphone

Microsoft Surface Duo is almost here, with the device projected to start shipping in just one week, and now Microsoft itself is getting ready for the moment customers would start asking all kinds of questions about this innovative product.

One of them is how should they install the Surface Duo Bumper, an accessory that many are buying too because, you know, nobody wants their shiny new dual-screen device to smash the ground and break into pieces.

And while at first glance installing a bumper on a phone isn’t rocket science, Microsoft has actually put together a dedicated page for the whole thing, trying to highlight the correct steps to make sure this process is performed correctly.

“Your Surface Duo comes with the Surface Duo Bumper to help keep it protected and looking its best. The bumper has two parts with an adhesive strip on both. It’s designed to be attached one time. Watch the short video to learn how to put it on,” Microsoft says.

Make sure the SIM is in there

The first thing you should do is insert your SIM card in the device because after installing the bumper, you no longer have access to the SIM tray. So technically, removing the SIM card or inserting a new one would require you to detach the bumper as well.

Microsoft explains that the whole bumper installing thing comes down to two steps:

Peel label 1 to remove the liner from the adhesive strip, and then attach the bumper to your Surface Duo. Do this for both sides with label 2 at the top. Remove label 2 from each side.

It remains to be seen if customers find this so difficult they need a video tutorial, but it’s pretty clear Microsoft wants all the information to be available out there for everyone once the Duo starts shipping.
