Replacing a shattered screen is cheaper than expected

Samsung has finally published the US prices for the Galaxy S10 repairs, revealing how much it costs to replace a shattered front screen or back panel on the company’s latest flagship.

As expected, this operation does not come cheap, but on the other hand, it’s a lot more affordable when comparing these prices with the ones announced by other companies, like Apple.

Samsung charges customers $269 to replace a broken front screen, while in the case of the smaller Galaxy S10, the price drops to $249. The Galaxy S10e, which is the cheapest of them all, the cost of a new front screen is $199.

For all three models, replacing the back panel comes with a $99 fee, as per Samsung’s prices.

More affordable servicing than for iPhones

Despite major upgrades in the screen department, the Galaxy S10 repair prices aren’t as high as anticipated, especially when looking at the previous models. For example, a new Galaxy Note 8 or Note 9 screen cost $239 in an official service center, while for a much older Galaxy S8+, getting a new display comes with a final cost of $229.

The oldest models are also the cheapest to repair, as the Samsung Galaxy S6 display is available for just $149.

Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ feature Infinity O displays with punch hole cameras and the fingerprint sensors embedded under the glass.

For comparison, Apple’s repair prices are substantially higher in the United States for the latest-generation iPhones.

Replacing a shattered screen on the iPhone XS Max, for example, costs $329 at the Apple Store, while the back panel is incredibly expensive at $599. The same for the iPhone X and XS, which both come with a $279 fee for a display replacement, and with an extra of $549 if the back panel needs to be changed too.
