14 DAY TRIAL // Back in 2015 when Windows 10 was still in its early days, a graphic driver bug generated a fully transparency effect for the taskbar, a thing that wasn’t actually possible in the new OS without third-party customizations.
Shortly after everyone started scanning the web for ways to reproduce the bug on their devices, all in an attempt to get this stylish tweak on the taskbar, a skilled developer came up with TranslucentTB, a freeware app that did the whole thing much easier.
Technically, all you had to do was launch the app and enjoy the full transparency in your taskbar without the need for a more complex UI or features that you wouldn’t otherwise used anyway.
This week, Ashampoo launched a similar application called Taskbar Customizer, and the idea behind it is pretty much the same as in the case of TranslucentTB.
Freeware license
Ashampoo Taskbar Customizer sets the taskbar to use full transparency, and an icon placed in the system tray provides access to a set of basic options, including a custom taskbar color and a setting to run the app on system boot.
Of course, the app is completely free, albeit registration is still required – you only need an email to set up an account, after which you are provided with a free license to activate the program.
Ashampoo Taskbar Customizer works correctly on all Windows 10 versions, and it seems to be fully compatible with the upcoming version 2004 due in the spring as well.
While this little app adds full transparency to your taskbar, you may also want to give a try to FalconX, another super-useful tool whose purpose is to center the taskbar icons. Used together, TranslucentTB/Ashampoo Taskbar Customizer and FalconX provide a more modern look and feel to the Windows desktop, bringing features that for some reason Microsoft still ignores despite the tons of feedback that it receives in this regard.
