14 DAY TRIAL // One of the key features of Windows 10 Mobile is Continuum, which allows users to convert a smartphone into a PC using a dedicated dock that allows for connectivity to an external screen.
And while this does come in handy while working at the desk, Continuum is less useful on the go, especially because it requires a bigger screen for your smartphone.
Several manufacturers have tried creating so-called lapdocks, which have a laptop form factor but require a mobile phone to run, as they don’t have an operating system, processor, and memory. And this is the case of the recently-announced Mirabook developed by Miraxess and which is now on display at CES.
Also offering support for Android
The Mirabook is basically just that, a device that allows you to take advantage of Windows 10 Mobile’s Continuum on the go. Additionally, it also provides support for Android’s Andromium, so it tries to tackle both Widows 10 Mobile and Android at the same time.
The device comes with a 1080p 13.3-inch display, and features several connectivity options, including 2 USB Type-C ports, HDMI, and a headphone jack (yes, even lapdocks have headphone jacks). microSD card support is also offered, so you can expand storage capacity beyond what your mobile phone has to offer.
The Mirabook weighs 2.2 lbs (0.99 kg) and comes with a large battery which, according to the manufacturing company, can offer an autonomy of no less than 24 hours. Connectivity with the mobile phone is established through a USB Type-C port, which most Windows 10 Mobile flagships already have, including Lumia 950 XL, Alcatel IDOL 4S, and HP Elite X3.
Unfortunately for those who find this product super-compelling, the Mirabook is not yet available for purchase, but the manufacturing company plans to launch it on Indiegogo for crowdfunding in just a couple of months. Pricing is projected to start at about $299.
