Concept designer envisions modern version of Windows 7

Windows XP was without a doubt one of the most popular operating systems ever released by Microsoft, and the simple fact that it’s still in use today, more than two years after its demise, is nothing else than living proof.

Windows 7 is slowly becoming the new Windows XP, and with end-of-support schedule for January 2020, there’s a big chance that a significant number of desktops would still be running it when Microsoft officially discontinues the OS.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean that Windows 7 should go dark. A concept published earlier this week proposes a modern version of the operating system that would integrate features currently available in Windows 10, essentially bringing this old OS version up-to-date with all the capabilities of Microsoft’s latest release.

Windows 7 going dark in 2 years

By the looks of things, the concept envisions more of a Windows 7 skin for Windows 10, obviously with some modern touches and with features that aren’t even available at the moment for Microsoft users.

The dynamic wallpaper, a feature inspired from Apple’s macOS Mojave, makes its way to this so-called Windows 7 2018 Edition, showing that Windows can too have a background that changes automatically according to the time of day.

Needless to say, ideas like these are interesting, though it goes without saying that there’s absolutely no chance for Microsoft to ever bring back Windows 7. Windows 10 is now the company’s only focus in the desktop OS world, and this is unlikely to change in the future.

For what it’s worth, if Windows 7 is still your big love on the PC, there are third-party themes that could help you bring back its looks to Windows 10. More complex customizations are required though, but if you’re not a big fan of Fluent Design and a modern UI, it could be worth the effort.
