14 DAY TRIAL // Even if Microsoft doesn’t seem to believe in Windows phones anymore, other companies do, and WhartonBrooks is definitely one of them.
The firm has just launched a new crowdfunding campaign on IndieGogo in an attempt to raise funds for a new device called Cerulean Moment and running Windows 10 Mobile.
Although at first glance the Cerulean Moment looks very similar to Coship phone, WhartonBrooks wants to make it a more affordable model that comes with mid-range to premium features, including support for Continuum.
WhartonBrooks says it wants to sell the device for $290, and for this money, you get a 5-inch 720p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor paired with 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 13-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel front unit, Continuum support, 2,250 mAh battery, dual SIM and LTE.
A modern PC
Described as a “modern PC,” the Cerulean Moment needs $1.1 million to come to life. At the time of writing this article, WhartonBrooks raised a little over $6,000 from 19 backers.
“To jump start our company we need 3,900 Windows Phone fans to join the revolution. WhartonBrooks is poised to bring new experiences and products to market to grow our platform to new heights. It is up to us, the fans, to make it happen,” the company says in its post on IndieGogo.
“Reaching our funding goal allows us to continuing innovating and bringing Windows smartphones to the fans. We are the only company 100% dedicated to promoting and growing our Windows Phone market.”
It remains to be seen if the company manages to raise the necessary money to launch this model, but at this point, it seems to really be the only one interested in launching Windows phones.
Rumor has it that Microsoft might prepare a Windows 10 Mobile device of its own this year, though no confirmation is available at this point, as the eagerly-anticipated Surface phone apparently needs more time to come to be. If it ever does it.
