A total of 19 iPhones were stolen from the SoHo store

There are people who would do anything for an iPhone, and if selling a kidney doesn’t work, the only option left appears to be stealing the device.

That’s exactly what two teenagers decided to do last week, when they broke into the SoHo store dressed as Apple employees and stole no less than 19 iPhones.

According to a report coming from DNAInfo, the local store replaced the colorful T-shirts that employees were wearing with blue uniforms, which were supposed to give a more premium look to an otherwise pretty high-class location. But it’s precisely this change of outfits that made the store more vulnerable, as the two thieves stepped inside wearing blue shirts that were very similar to those in use by the staff.

$16,000 worth of iPhones

The NYPD police claimed that the theft took place at 5:30 on June 1, and one of the thieves went directly to the electronics repair room in the back where he picked up all the iPhones he could find. He ended up getting a total of $16,000 worth of iPhones, all of which he then handed to his friend, also dressed as an Apple employee, who then hid them under his shirt until he left the store.

Nobody noticed the two, and it was nearly impossible to because the store was quite crowded, and given the fact that all Apple employees were wearing similar shirts, distinguishing one from another was barely impossible.

The investigation continues in this case, the NYPD police says, but it’s not yet clear if the officers managed to find any suspects or not. It goes without saying that there were video cameras in the store, so it shouldn’t be too hard to at least see the two teenagers as they sneak into the repair room in the back.

Most likely, some of those iPhones will end up for sale on the Internet, so police officers will probably keep an eye on every new post that goes live on sites such as eBay and Craigslist.
