Concept envisions a new design for Windows 10 live tiles

Live tiles are here to stay, or at least, that’s what Microsoft appears to suggest despite all the rumors that have been making the headlines lately.

And while Microsoft is ready to refresh them with theme-aware styling, which essentially gives up on the solid color background in the Start menu, it’s not a secret that users always expect more.

And by more, all these users actually think of a more modern design that would align with the direction that Microsoft itself has promised for Windows 10 and which would be powered by the adoption of Fluent Design.

But at the same time, it’s also not a secret that the way Fluent Design expands in Windows 10 is also happening at a slower pace than everybody expected. And this is where user concepts come into play.

Live tile concept

The design that you see here, and which was shared on Twitter by @vastglad, proposes a substantially refined look for live tiles, and at first glance, it’s exactly what users want Microsoft to do in the first place.

Live tiles themselves could also allow for interaction beyond the point where you can just click on them to launch the apps. The To-Do live tile, for instance, should allow users to just check the tasks that have already been completed, all without the need for running the app for the whole thing.

Is this something that we could eventually see in Windows 10? I highly doubt it, or if it ever happens, you’d better not hold your breath for it. Right now, Microsoft has clearly embraced a very slow overhaul of the live tiles, so for the time being, let’s just stick with the theme-aware design.

If anything, Microsoft was even believed to be looking into a Start menu without live tiles, all for a more static design similar to the one in Windows 10X. The idea has apparently been abandoned, so the live tiles would just live on for a little longer.
