UC Browser launches as universal app on Windows 10

UC Browser has long been one of the most popular browsers for mobile users, and the parent company decided to bring it on PCs too, with a dedicated version for Microsoft’s Windows 10 OS also planned.

Today, the Windows Store version of UC Browser launched for the PC, and despite being called “UWP,” there’s no sibling for Windows phones, or at least not yet.

The Windows 10 version of UC Browser is exclusively available on PCs for the time being, but at first use, it turns out to be a better app than Microsoft’s own Edge.

UC Browser features

First and foremost, UC Browser comes on Windows 10 with a pretty clean and straightforward look, and the developing team says its interface was specifically optimized to be used with touch and with the traditional mouse and keyboard combination.

The minimalist look comes alongside a rich feature lineup that includes mouse gestures, which are fully customizable from the app’s settings screen and which you can see in detail in the photo gallery at the end of the article.

There’s also the so-called Omnibar, which is a more advanced version of the address bar that comes with extra options to type not only the URL but also other words to perform an online search, look for bookmarks or entries in the browsing history.

Additionally, the browser supports an incognito mode with no traces left behind, and integrates a password manager and cloud sync for synchronizing bookmarks between your devices. There’s also voice search, a floating navigator, plus a tab stack to work easily with several tabs.

It goes without saying that the application is completely free and there are no ads, but it’s quite a shame that no mobile version has been developed so far. Of course, efforts to make it truly universal could bring the app on smartphones as well, so fingers crossed for a Windows 10 Mobile flavor.
