Racist trolls make themselves heard, Twitter pushes back

Perhaps one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of the year is Disney’s “Star Wars” Episode VII - The Force Awakens,” which will reboot the franchise and bring new fans to the iconic universe. However, not all moviegoers are happy with it, and some even took to Twitter to get a new hashtag, #BoycottStarWarsVII trending.

Their issue with the film, as you can see from the samples included below, was that it promoted a very sinister multicultural agenda by including a black actor as leading man: John Boyega as Finn. Imagine the outrage: if a black man is lead, then where are all the white people?!

The “controversy” around Boyega’s casting isn’t new, in the sense that his involvement in the film has attracted this type of racist commentary before. For some reason, some “Star Wars” fans simply can’t imagine a world where a Stormtrooper would be black.

Asked about this, Boyega shrugged off criticism, pointing out that the “Star Wars” universe has always been the most diverse. And he’s not really the type to let this kind of negativity get to him.

As Disney was gearing for the release of a new full trailer for the film, buzz on Twitter around this reached its peak. It’s not just the “racist trolls” who are discussing the hashtag right now, as more common-sense people are pushing back to show why this “white genocide” argument is wrong.

Again, you will find samples of these comments below.
