The universal BoA app is almost here, the bank says

Bank of America is getting ready to launch its universal app for Windows 10, and according to new information, the debut will take place “in the next few weeks.”

The bank announced the removal of its Windows Phone app from the store in March 2015, preferring instead to focus on apps available on alternative platforms, such as iOS and Android. Users were still allowed to access the BoA website with mobile Internet Explorer, but there were reports that only switching to the desktop version of the page allowed for authentication.

A message posted on the BoA website provided no information on the reason for the removal:

“We no longer support the app and you may not have browser access to bankofamerica.com for this device,” the error message display to Windows Phone users launching the removed app read.

“But you can access Online Banking through your laptop or desktop browser or a mobile device with a supported operating system. Just go to bankofamerica.com for a list of supported browsers and operating systems.”

Company-wide Windows 10 deployment

The arrival of Windows 10, however, made Bank of America reconsider its options, with the company now looking into the PC version of the operating system for a company-wide deployment.

As a result, Bank of America is also developing a universal app for Windows 10 that would allow customers to access their accounts, and in a recent post, the company confirmed that this app is just around the corner.

“The app is coming very soon, in the next few weeks, and it will be available on phones, tablets, and PCs with Windows 10,” a BoA customer support engineer was quoted as saying recently.

The debut of the new BoA app could happen at the BUILD developer conference this month, when Microsoft is also expected to take the wraps off more apps for Windows 10 and to detail the status of its bridges.
