14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 Mobile is expected to launch sometime in February (or at least in early 2016, according to Microsoft), but the operating system already has excellent adoption on Windows Phone devices.
New statistics provided by AdDuplex show that, at this moment, Windows 10 Mobile is running on no less than 9.5 percent of Windows phones, which is impressive, to say the least, given the fact that RTM is not out yet.
Obviously, most of these devices are running the preview build of Windows 10 Mobile, which shows that the Windows phones community is made of pretty tech-savvy users who are ready to take on bugs in order to experience the latest version of the operating system. A small percentage goes to Lumia 950, 950 XL, and 550, which have all launched with Windows 10 Mobile pre-installed.
The report, however, states that “the changes suggest that the growth of Windows 10 usage is being driven more by new devices than by Insider upgrades.”
Lots of users still on Windows Phone 7
But while it’s quite an achievement to see Windows 10 Mobile running on nearly 10 percent of all Windows phones, there’s also a dark side. Windows Phone 7.x still has a share of 4.3 percent.
Windows Phone 8.1 is obviously number one with 77.7 percent, followed by Windows Phone 8.0 with 8.4 percent. So at this point, Windows 10 Mobile is the second most-used version in the Windows phone world.
As far as devices are concerned, the old and super-affordable Lumia 520 is currently the most popular Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile device in the whole world, with a share of 12.9 percent, followed by Lumia 535 with 11.7 percent, and Lumia 630 with 8.6 percent. The new Lumia models are nowhere to be found in this list right now.
Windows 10 Mobile is projected to launch sometime next month if the latest inside information is accurate, so these charts could change significantly as most Windows Phone devices are very likely to be upgraded soon after the release.
