Apple unveils prices for its new Apple Watch range

Apple took the wraps off the new iPhone 7 and the second-generation Apple Watch during an event on September 7, announcing that pre-orders for the two devices would start on September 9 and would last for one week before they start shipping.

Without a doubt, when it comes to the Watch, the all-new white ceramic-made version is the one getting most of the attention, especially because Apple itself has praised it on stage.

Ceramic is certainly an exquisite material, and Apple says that it’s super durable, so the Watch will almost never scratch.

“Apple Watch Edition now comes in a beautiful ceramic, that embodies craftsmanship with a lustrous white case and all the incredible features of Apple Watch Series 2. Ceramic is one of the hardest materials in the world - more than four times harder than stainless steel - with a beautiful, white, pearl-like finish, making Apple Watch Edition extremely scratch-resistant,” the company explains.

Getting a ceramic Apple Watch 2 and an iPhone 7 Plus will set you back more than $2,000

But it all comes at a cost. Although it’s not made from gold, the white ceramic Apple Watch costs no less than $1,249 for the 38mm version and $1,299 for the 42mm version, which is almost as much as an iPhone 7 Plus with 256 GB of storage space. These are only the US prices and are very likely to be even bigger in Europe, given the taxes on the continent.

In case you’re wondering, the other watches are a little bit more affordable, so if you go for the upgraded Apple Watch Series 1, you only have to pay $269 (again, this is US pricing).

The standard Series 2 will cost $369 while the Nike+ version is available for the same price. If you want something a bit more exquisite, the Apple Watch Hermes will be sold for $1,149 and will come with a special-edition band and face. All models run watchOS 3 out of the box.
