New Windows 11 update brings back this great future

One of the things I loved the most in Windows 10 was the News and Interests experience, which allowed me to display the weather forecast right in the taskbar.

News and Interests evolved substantially with the debut of Windows 11, as Microsoft turned this feature into widgets, and at the same time, it created a new dedicated button that’s pinned to the taskbar by default.

This means the weather on the taskbar was pretty much gone, even though it was a feature that so many people really enjoyed.

Enter Windows 11 update

The update that Microsoft is now rolling out for Windows 11 devices is bringing back the weather to the taskbar, though it does it in a different way this time.

The weather is now showing in the lower left corner of the screen in the taskbar, in the same place where the classic Start menu used to be in all versions of Windows prior to Windows 11.

“To try it out, simply hover over the weather icon; the Widgets board will open and stay open until you move your mouse away. To keep Widgets open, click the weather icon once, and it will stay open until you click somewhere outside of the Widgets board. If your Taskbar is currently left-aligned, this new entry point for Widgets will be to the right of the task view icon,” Microsoft explains.

Only devices running this new update are being provided with the weather information in the taskbar, so if you are already running Windows 11, you know what you have to do in order to get this feature.

The update is shipped via Windows Update, and it doesn’t look like Microsoft is using a phased rollout, which means it should already be available for everybody on Windows 11.
