Much has been said about Alejandro G. Inarritu’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning “Birdman,” “The Revenant,” some of it good and much of it bad, but I do believe a picture is worth a thousand words. A trailer is worth millions more.

“The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, just got a brand new trailer, which you will find in full and in HD below. Whereas the first one featured very little dialog and only a quick glimpse at Hardy, focusing instead on the action scenes, this one is more careful about telling a story.

This is the story of real-life hunter Hugh Glass who was double-crossed by his mates and left for dead in the woods after a bear attacked him and seriously injured him. However, Glass would not die. His desire to get his revenge at the men who did this to him kept him alive and then going, scouring the country to find them.

“The Revenant” is believed to be a very strong contender in the upcoming awards season for a variety of reasons, one of them being that it’s a passion project for Inarritu and another that it features work from 2 of the most talented actors working in Hollywood today.

It was also shot in sequence (meaning, in the order you will see it on screen) and only in natural lighting and conditions. This pushed it over the budget and over the deadline, which turned the production into complete hell, as Hardy himself revealed a short while ago.

As we speak, the film still doesn’t have a final cut, but Inarritu is positive he will be able to meet the limited December release to qualify for the Oscars. “The Revenant” opens wide in January 2016.
