14 DAY TRIAL // In a surprising turn of events, CI Games, the owner of the Lords of the Fallen IP, announced a reboot of the original game launched back in 2014. Although reports claimed the studio is working on Lords of the Fallen 2, it appears that CI Games wanted to start fresh.
Developed by HEXWORKS, a studio owned by CI Games, the new game is simply called The Lords of the Fallen and it’s currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, The Lords of the Fallen received a 3-minute cinematic trailer that doesn’t reveal any gameplay whatsoever.
Still, if the new game is based off the original, we kind of know what to expect: a soulslike experience backed by state-of-the-art visuals. Hopefully, the game won’t be marred by the technical issues that made the first game almost unplayable.
“The Lords of the Fallen is the spiritual successor fans of the original title have always wanted. The game is significantly larger, with a vast, interconnected dual world split between the realms of the living and dead, that players can explore alone or with friends. It's darker and more challenging, with faster soulslike combat, stronger thematic, richer narrative, deeper RPG systems, and more immersive storytelling,” said Cezar Virtosu, Creative Director.
The Lords of the Fallen takes place more than a thousand years after the events of the first game and introduces an all-new adventure in a massive world, more than five times bigger than the original game. It looks like CI Games has drawn inspiration from Elden Ring and Dark Souls and decided to make their game livelier.
As such, the developers promise “an expansive RPG experience, filled with NPC quests, compelling characters, and rich narrative.” Another interesting addition to the series is the option to invite a second player to join in the adventure in uninterrupted online co-op.
