Nicholas Sparks’ movies might not be hits with the critics, but they always end up as fan-favorites. “The Notebook,” which came out in 2004 and was based on the best-selling 1996 novel of the same name, is now a classic - and proof that audiences love nothing more than a good tearjerker.

Starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, it tells the story of a couple in love but not able to be together for reasons outside of their control. The romance is framed by the story of an elderly couple, in what turns out to be a major twist: they’re the same characters, but she’s got advanced Alzheimer and he’s trying to remind her of their great romance.

Word online has it that, if you see “The Notebook” and don’t cry, either you don’t have a heart or it’s been turned to stone a long time ago. Obviously, today’s surprising news isn’t for these people, but for the fans: The CW is making “The Notebook” into a TV series, with help from Sparks’ production house, Entertainment Weekly reports.

“This series will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina,” the synopsis reads.

This means that the elderly couple framing device will be absent, and “The Notebook” will be turned into a period drama.

The report doesn’t mention a possible air date, but it stresses that this announcement doesn’t mean that fans will be getting a full season. Yet. If the pilot is well received, The CW will order an entire season.

If not, we’ll always have this, I guess.
