None of the US carriers support the phone's network bands

Although Nokia 3310 stole the show at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, not all is good on the US front. As hard as it might be to believe, the feature phone announced by HMD Global last week won't work in the United States because none of the carriers in the country supports the Nokia 3310's bands.

Perhaps many of you probably know by now that the new Nokia 3310 features 2G support with 900/1800 MHz bands. In order to work in the United States, the phone would have to be compatible with AT&T's 850MHz frequency, CNET reports.

That's one of the reasons the new Nokia 3310 won't be picked up by any carriers in the U.S. Even if the phone is put on sale at U.S. retailers like Best Buy or Amazon, buyers would still not be able to use it to make or take calls while in the country.

The good news is HMD Global is going to bring the new Nokia 3310 to the U.S. at some point, so fans should rest assured they will be able to get the company's new products in their country.

The global head of marketing for HMD Global, Patrick Mercanton, says that it's not that the phone will not be launched in the U.S., but rather that the production for the U.S. version of the new Nokia 3310 will take a little bit longer to ramp up.

He also adds that HMD Global has been in talks with U.S. carriers at the Mobile World Congress trade fair, about the company's new lineup of Nokia-branded phones, including the modern Nokia 3310.

If HMD Global manages to strike a deal with a U.S. carrier for the launch of one or more Nokia phones in the country, that will mark a major step towards the revival of the brand at a global level.

“We'll probably end with the US at some point. It's definitely on our radar, we want to go into the US because we want to have a global launch,” concluded Mercanton.
