Bethesda is quite confident in the odds of its upcoming Doom title, as the publisher believes that it can go head to head with other major first-person shooters, such as Battlefield, largely because it offers a fast-paced, old-school experience with many new elements added on top of it.

The Doom series has been around for decades, but unfortunately for fans of the franchise, there haven't been any new installments due to the tumultuous periods endured by developer id Software.

After quite some time, Bethesda and id Software have revealed Doom, a reboot of sorts that reimagines the shooter series with both old and new elements. The title was revealed to the world through some great gameplay demonstrations at Bethesda's special E3 2015 press conference.

Doom can go toe-to-toe with other big shooters

Now, the publisher is talking about the odds of success for Doom and how it can more than rival other big names in the first-person shooter genre.

According to the company's Vice President of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, the game can more than pique the interest of shooter fans, not just because of its old-school roots but also through its new elements that don't follow the rules established by the likes of Call of Duty or Battlefield.

"Doom is fast-paced, very visceral and sort of incentivizes you to be aggressive. If you are low on health, the best way to stay alive is to find a demon and kill. If you stop taking fire for a little bit, your health doesn’t go back up. It has some old-school sensibilities but it is doing it in a very modern, fresh next-gen way. It can go toe-to-toe with those really big shooters," Hines tells MCV.

The new Doom title is set to launch in 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A beta stage is also set to arrive before then, first for those who bought last year's Wolfenstein: The New Order and then for the rest of interested gamers.
