One of the best months of the year for Nintendo fans

We have yet to hit the middle of the year and we’ve got some great game releases. Although things aren’t looking great for PC players (just about every major release had issues on this specific platform), we can only hope that things will improve going forward.

That being said, May 2023 shapes up to be another busy month for gamers. Whether you play on console or PC, there are major titles coming out this May. Among the most important ones are the next Zelda game and, of course, Microsoft’s first triple A title in quite a long time, Redfall.

In fact, Redfall is May’s opener when it comes to games releases. Arkane’s next title lands on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on May 2. Unfortunately, the developer has already announced that the game will be capped at 30fps on Xbox Series X/S at launch, but a patch will be released later on which will add 60fps support. PC players seem to be unaffected by this issue, so if you’re already paying for Game Pass, you’ll be getting the best experience for free.

Two other important games aimed at strategy fans are coming out on the same day: Age of Wonders 4 (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S) and Showgunners. They are followed by three indie games on May 4: Knight Crawlers (PC), KAKU: Ancient Seal (Steam Early Access), and Jected – Rivals (Steam Early Access).

Those who haven’t been able to upgrade their consoles will be happy to know that Hogwarts Legacy will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 5. One of the best games of the year is hitting previous generation consoles in an attempt cater to even more audiences. If you’re a fan of cooking games, Cook Serve Forever is hitting Steam Early Access on May 8.

One of the biggest game releases of the year, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been confirmed to arrive on Nintendo Switch on May 12, so in less than two weeks from now. Judging by all the previous that have been published by the critics, this will be an even bigger success than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Luckily, there’s not much to play until May 16th, so if you own a Nintendo Switch, you can try and finish the new Zelda game. Otherwise, Tin Hearts launches on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Serie X/S on May 16, followed by The Outlast Trials (PC) on May 18.

Next in line we have Firmament coming to PC and I Am Future that should enter Steam Early Access on the same day. The next big game from publisher 2K is the new LEGO 2K Drive, which should arrive on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on May 19.

The last third of the month is just as crowed as the other two. Farworld Pioneers is coming to PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on May 20, followed by Inkbound (Steam Early Access) and Miasma Chronicles (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S) on May 22 and May 23, respectively.

Five other very interesting titles are set to arrive on May 23: After Us (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S), Bread & Fred (PC), Star Trek: Resurgence (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S), Amnesia: The Bunker (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S), and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch).

Nearly a dozen games are expected to be released during the last week of the month, including the Lord of the Rings game that’s been delayed a couple of times. Let’s start with Dynopunk, which is coming to PC on May 25, alongside Evil Wizard (PC, Xbox Series X/S).

We have three other games coming out on the same day, including Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099 (PC, Nintendo Switch), The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S), and Above Snakes (PC).

Before we hit the last few days of May, we have yet another indie game, The Baby in Yellow, which is expected to enter Steam Early Access on May 26. If you like to play games exclusively on console and are looking forward to playing SEGA’s latest big strategy game, Company of Heroes 3, then you won’t have to wait too long.

Relic Entertainment’s game has been confirmed to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 30. Sorry PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players, but it looks like this one won’t be coming to older consoles, at least not for the time being.

One of the cult games with a huge following, System Shock, is finally coming to PC on May 30. Initially announced as a remaster of the original, the game is now considered a reboot of the franchise. Developer Night Dive Studios revealed plans to completely rework the game to use the Unreal Engine 4 engine, add a bucketload of improved art assets and many other enhancements. Hopefully, it won’t be delayed again.

Last but not least, we have two more games confirmed for release next month. The first one is Poly Bridge 3, which is coming to PC on May 30, while the second one, Candle Knight, will land on PC on May 31. There are a handful of additional indie titles that are supposed to be released in May, but don’t have an exact launch date yet.

The most important one is Backpack Hero (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), but here is the full list: WrestleQuest (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), Heist Kitty: Cats Go a Stray (PC), Doomsday Paradise (PC), Humanity (PC, PlayStation 4/5, PSVR, PSVR2), and Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch).
